Gulab jamun is an Indian dessert of fried dough balls that are soaked in a sweet, sticky sugar syrup. As per tradition, the syrup has a delicate rose flavor. Gulab means 'rose water' and jamun refers to a berry of a similar size and color. Try making this delicious orange scented Gulab Jamun and elevate your next dinner party.

Orange Scented Gulab Jamun, an aromatic twist on the traditional Indian dessert, brings a refreshing citrus note to the classic flavors. This recipe from Official LA LECHERA® takes the beloved fried dough balls and infuses them with a delightful orange scent, making each bite a perfect blend of zesty and sweet.

The dough, enhanced with NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed Milk, is deep-fried until golden brown in ghee or ground nut oil, giving it a rich and satisfying texture. These sumptuous dough balls are then soaked in a fragrant syrup, delicately flavored with rose water and an invigorating hint of orange.

To elevate the dish further, a sprinkle of toasted coconut adds a delightful crunch and nutty flavor that perfectly complements the soft, syrup-laden dough balls.

Ideal for festive occasions and special family gatherings, this dessert is manageable for cooks of all skill levels and can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. With its rich flavors and enticing aroma, Orange Scented Gulab Jamun from Official LA LECHERA® promises to be a standout addition to any dessert table.

  • Pan
  • cuenco
  • Whisk
  • Slotted Spoon
  • Papertowel
  • Measuring Spoons

Make It

Step 1

Boil sugar and water together for a few minutes; let cool. Stir in orange extract.

Step 2

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and nutmeg into a bowl; stir in enough of the sweetened condensed milk to form a soft dough.

Step 3

Shape the dough into small sausages approximately 3/4-inch in length. Fry gently in a skillet with hot ghee or oil. Only fry 3-4 jamuns at a time as they expand during cooking. Do not allow the oil to over heat as the jamuns will cook too quickly on the outside but not be cooked through in the middle.

Step 4

Drain the jamuns on paper towels; place into the orange syrup. Stir gently to coat. Serve hot or cold sprinkled with toasted coconut.

Tip:

One of the top tips for perfect Orange Scented Gulab Jamuns is to make sure you shape the jamuns properly before frying otherwise they could split open. Make sure you grease your hands before rolling them into shape and fry them immediately.
