Step 1

Combine ground beef, ½ cup onion, ½ cup chopped tomato, bell pepper, 3 tablespoons flour, eggs, coffee granules, 1 teaspoon bouillon and black pepper in a large bowl.

Step 2

Mix ingredients with hands until thoroughly combined. Shape into twenty 2-inch patties.

Step 3

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown patties on each side for about 4 minutes; turn and cook for an additional 4 minutes. Remove patties from skillet; place on a large platter and cover lightly. Reserve drippings in skillet.

Step 4

Return skillet with drippings back to stove over medium heat.

Step 5

Add remaining ½ cup onion, remaining ½ cup tomato, remaining 1 tablespoon flour, remaining 2 teaspoons bouillon and cilantro; cook, stirring rapidly, for 2 minutes. Add water and tomato sauce and cook until mixture begins to boil.

Step 6

Return beef patties to tomato sauce. Cover; cook for 15 minutes.

Tip

As an alternative, patties can be made into meatballs.
