How to cook Stouffer's frozen lasagna in a slow cooker

You can cook Stouffer's frozen lasagna directly in a slow cooker, no thawing, no oven required. Place the frozen tray in an oval slow cooker (at least 6 quarts), set it on high for 4 hours or low for 5.5 to 6 hours, and walk away. The result is the same bubbly, tender lasagna with no hands-on effort.

This method works with four Stouffer's Family Size lasagnas: Lasagna with Meat & Sauce (38 oz), Meat Lovers Lasagna (38 oz), Lasagna Italiano (38 oz), and Vegetable Lasagna (37.5 oz). Most cook for 5.5 hours on low heat, but the Lasagna Italiano needs 6 hours on low. On high heat, all four cook in 4 hours.

You will need an oval slow cooker, not round, with at least a 6-quart capacity. The oval shape allows the rectangular tray to sit flat on the bottom, which ensures even heating. A round cooker may not fit the tray properly.

Why the slow cooker method works

The slow cooker's low, even heat thaws and cooks the frozen lasagna gradually, so the layers heat through uniformly without drying out the edges. The sealed lid traps moisture, keeping the cheese melted and the sauce rich. The tray goes straight from freezer to cooker, so there is no prep beyond removing the box.

This is especially useful when your oven is occupied with other dishes, during holidays or gatherings, or on busy weeknights when you want dinner ready with no attention required. Set it in the morning and it's done by evening.

Tips before you start

  • Do not vent the tray or remove the film. Leave the tray sealed as it comes from the box.

  • Do not open the slow cooker during cooking. The lasagna should cook undisturbed for the full time.

  • Check doneness with a thermometer. The lasagna is ready when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

  • Use oven mitts to remove the tray. The tray and contents will be very hot.

  • Cooking times may vary depending on your slow cooker model. If the center isn't fully hot, continue cooking and check again in 15 to 20 minutes.

What to serve with slow cooker lasagna

Pair your lasagna with garlic bread, a simple green salad, roasted broccoli, or steamed vegetables. A side of crusty Italian bread with olive oil also works well for a complete meal.

Storage and reheating

Store leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave until hot, or place in a 350°F oven covered with foil for about 20 minutes. Previously cooked lasagna can also be frozen in a sealed container for up to 2 months, thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Tip: It is recommended to use an oval cooker (not round) of at least 6-quarts so that the tray sits flat on the bottom of the cooker.


HIGH HEAT

From Frozen: Remove lasagna tray from box, and place entire tray in slow cooker (do not vent). Set cooker to High heat setting and cook for 4 hours (undisturbed).


LOW HEAT

From Frozen: Remove lasagna tray from box, and place entire tray in slow cooker. Set cooker to Low heat setting and cook for 5.5 hours (undisturbed). [For Lasagna Italiano Family Size (38 oz), cook for 6 hours on Low heat setting.]


Will be hot! Ensure product reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Cooking time may need adjusting.


Remove tray carefully out of slow cooker to serve. When removing tray, take caution and wear oven mitts or use hot pads to carefully lift tray out of slow cooker.
